Liberty Municipal Library Interlibrary Loan Policy

The Liberty Municipal Library participates in the Texas Group Catalog of the OCLC Navigator interlibrary loan (ILL) service. Interlibrary loan is the process by which a library requests material from, or supplies material to, another library.

Borrower function: Patrons who have had a Liberty Municipal Library card for at least three months and have a good checkout record with no outstanding fines or fees may request materials from other libraries through the ILL program. The due date for borrowed materials is set by the lending library. Renewals may be possible if permitted by the lending library. Patrons who need to extend the loan period must contact the Liberty Municipal Library prior to the due date so that the lending library may be contacted. A late fee for overdue materials will be charged according to the lending library’s fee schedule. The borrowing patron is responsible for any overdue fees and/or replacement costs for late, damaged or lost books.

Patrons may request four items per month through ILL service. A small fee for return postage for each book received through ILL is charged to the borrowing patron. Postage is charged to the patron if the requested and received ILL is not picked up.

Lender function:

The Liberty Municipal Library will lend out books in its collection with the exception of the following: genealogy, reference books, microfilm, equipment, periodicals, high demand titles, books less than 6 months old, rare books, local history resources, e-books, audiovisual materials, and government documents.

The checkout period for interlibrary loans from the Liberty Municipal Library is four weeks with one renewal allowed. A small fee to cover the postage for sending out the material will be charged and the invoice will be shipped with the item. Rush orders will be invoiced for the actual cost of delivery. The fine for overdue materials will be $1.00 per day. The borrower is responsible for late fees. The actual replacement cost will be charged for books that are lost or returned damaged.

The Liberty Municipal Library uses the U.S. Postal Service to ship ILLs. The library is not an international lender.

The Liberty Municipal Library will make copies from non-circulating books in accordance with U.S. copyright laws. U.S. copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code). There is a 15 cent per page charge for copies, and the invoice will be included with the items.

Interlibrary loan service is available Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The library is closed on major holidays.
