Structure Permits

Structure Permits are issued any time a commercial or residential building is built or remodeled. These permits may be issued to the owner of the structure or a contractor hired to do the work. However, all work must meet the International Building Code 2015 requirements, as well as all requirements set forth by the City of Liberty’s Code of Ordinances.

In order to apply for a new structure permit or remodel permit, the following questions should be addressed:

Q    Are there any other structures on the property?
A    The City’s Code of Ordinances states that there will be no more than one single family dwelling on one legal size lot.

Q    In order to put more than one single family dwelling on one legally described lot, what do I need to do?
A    In order to put more than one single family dwelling on one legal lot, you must first determine if the lot is large enough to accommodate two or more dwellings. If so, you will have to go through the City’s land subdivision process.

Q    Could there be asbestos in your building?
A    The Texas Department of Health requires all commercial buildings be tested for asbestos before work commences. All commercial structures with the intent to remodel will need to notify The Texas Department of Health Asbestos Department before a permit can be issued.

Q    Does this new commercial building conform to the State of Texas’ ADA requirements?
A    Any new commercial building with a valuation in excess of $50,000 will need to contact the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, P.O. Box 12157, Austin, Texas 78711, (800) 803-9202 prior to applying for a building permit. A project number will be issued for the structure confirming that the building meets all ADA requirements.
